School has started. We are still making the transition from summer-constantly-unscheduled-free-for-all-goodness into alarm-clock-out-the-door-shuffling-to-and-fro-school life.
It's a lifestyle choice that I make consciously, willingly and thankfully.
But the truth is, I'm not great at transitions. I don't prepare well for them, and once I'm in them, I tend to shut-down when I am overwhelmed by the new routines. I have no idea why I am this way, but I'm putting it on my list of things to investigate about myself.
What that means for my kids is that they are ill-prepared for the summer-to-school switch. It takes quite a while for all of us to adapt to new routines. And that's ok. It just takes me a while to sort out priorities and their corresponding time slots. Blogging is at the bottom of the barrel, for now.
Elia started 2nd grade and is totally ROCKING it. The teacher complimented her work-ethic the second week in. Go Elia!!
Austin started kindergarten. And, well, let's just say he is a bit like me when it comes to transitions. Perhaps more so. His little voice crying, "Don't leave me here!" as we left his classroom the first day echoed through my mind relentlessly. And yes, I wept all day. BUT the going-to-school process gets better each week, and we can already see him expressing his brilliant mind in new ways. It's going to be a good year.
Emerson is back at her preschool two days a week with Austin's teacher from last year. She loves it.
Hannah started there as well and is adjusting nicely, which was a bit of a surprise.
I love, cherish and adore my 10 hours a week with no children. Love. Cherish. Adore.
Thank you back-to-school life.
About to head off for the first day of school. You can tell from the image that Elia is the only one who truly knows what is about to happen. |
Gonna be a glory year. |
We had breakfast with the Harris' to start the year with a sha-bang! |
Who? |
The March |
Matthews Elementary housing two Vaclavs, for now. |
Boo-ya. I'm a second-grader and Dad's wearing a purse. |
The reality was setting in. I had to leave the room immediately after I took this photo. Good timing, too, because I had a total meltdown in the hallway. |
He's a rock that keeps our family (and three shops) steady in the wobbly transition time. I'm so thankful for him.
